Sawtooth Mountain Guides

Sawtooth Mountain Guides offers a variety of avalanche courses each winter for backcountry skiers and riders of all abilities. We offer avalanche awareness programs in Boise, and Companion Rescue, Level 1, Level 1 Refresher, and Level 2 Courses in both Stanley and Sun Valley. Many of our courses are offered at the Williams Peak Hut in the heart of the Sawtooths. All courses follow the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE) curriculum, and are taught by experienced guides and avalanche professionals.

Sun Valley Trekking

For over 25 years, Sun Valley Trekking has been offering Avalanche Education courses for winter backcountry enthusiasts. Each winter SVT provides custom Level 1 avalanche education courses for several college and university outdoor recreation programs, as well as both town and hut-based Level 1 courses to the general public. When there is demand, SVT also provides Level 1 Refresher, Level 2 and Level 3 avalanche education courses. Our course providers have included such leaders in the field as Ian McCammon, Janet Kellam and Don Sharaf. SVT is a professional member of the American Avalanche Association and our courses meet or exceed the curriculum guidelines set by the AAA.

Avalanche Science

Avalanche Education Redefined - Avalanche Science's courses are designed for people seeking complete instruction and preparation for traveling safely in avalanche terrain, including backcountry skiers and riders, as well as snowmobilers. Participants will learn about decision-making, situational awareness, risk assessment, and the fundamental physics behind snow metamorphism-why avalanches happen. Avalanche Science is an AIARE Provider operating in the Boise Mountains of Central Idaho, the Chilean/Argentine Andes, and Spanish/Andorran Pyrenees.
