PROFESSIONAL OBSERVATION FORM
Start Date: 02.18.18 Name: VandenBos Operation: SAC
Drainage/Route:  Central Sawtooths Observed Terrain:   Zone/Region:  Sawtooth Mountains
WEATHER OBSERVATIONS
 HN24: HST: Sky: Precip: Temps:
 Ridgeline Wind:
Blowing Snow: Snow Available for Transport:
Comments: 20-25cm HN24, started out pretty dense at the bottom by upper 10-15cm were quite low density. A touch of sun and visibility in the morning but low clouds moved in and were present for most of the day and snowfall rates up to S2 were observed with an accumulation of 5cm through the day. Winds were light and intermittent
AVALANCHE OBSERVATIONS
None Reported
Comments: Poor visibility in the Sawtooths limited observation of recent activity during tour today, but did observe one fresh slab that had released below the north facing terrain on Thompson peak (few hundred feet wide, 1' deep crown?). Observed some wind/shallow slab activity in alpine terrain in the Smokys on the drive north. Several small avalanches had also released near the pass including a (suspected) plow-triggered slide on Verlins. Nothing that I saw on the pass was very deep, likely failing at either the new/old interface of FCsf from early in the week.
