MESSAGE
Comments: We ascended Mt. Etna via the northwest ridge. Wind was constant at about 15 mph out of the SW. The ridge cornices have grown substantially in the last day, and I would advise being on the lookout if the light is flat and more snow falls. We caused one large whumpf about halfway to the summit. We could not see cracks due to the flat light and blowing snow. We stuck to terrain well under 30 degrees and skied one at a time. Gut feelings: We felt very strongly that steeper terrain was unsafe to ski, and if an avalanche were to occur we would have taken a nasty ride through trees into the valley bottom. Be safe out there everyone!
