Quick day trip into the Pioneer Yurt and did not get above yurt level. Access route was packed snow to the Big Basin turn. Very thin coverage on all solar aspects below 9000' (mostly sage brush) and 30cm (+-) on colder aspects. 8700' and above 30-40+cm on most aspects. Ski pen = 10cm. Coverage looks to be a bit more than average for this time of year on upper elevation slopes (above 9000'). Evidence of widespread wind affects on snow surface but no sensitive wind slabs observed on the access route . Snowpack at yurt level (8700') felt like a very thin March snowpack with significant warming causing moist snow surface (heat penetration down approximately 10cm). A moist faceting pack below (4f) with thin crust 15-20cm above ground. Expect to find cold faceting snow on cool aspects above yurt level where not wind hammered and would expect wind slabs and even loose wet problems on particular upper elevation slopes.
