Went out to check out the south valley snow situation. Dug a pit on a ~30 deg S aspect slope around 6200ft. Found a buried weak layer at the ground surface around 50cm down. Total snow depth ~60cm. We did some column tests failing around 8 on both the bottom layer and what I would presume to be the late Nov snow. No other signs of instability, and still encountered lots of rocks and sagebrush going up and down. Great coverage up there for this time of year though, and decent turns!
With low viz, rock hazards, and conditions we traveled extremely conservatively.
