We skinned up and skied a West facing slope out Spring Creek drainage. What we observed was an extremely poor snowpack consisting of large facets beginning at the ground with a slab, consisting of the snow that fell in the last week, sitting at the top. In some areas there was a crust between these two layers that varied in thickness and hardness. On our way up, we observed widespread cracking and collapsing - we stayed out of avalanche terrain today and found great low-angle powder turns.
