Observations

Sled tracks can be seen at photo left, avalanche initiated while sledder was descending. Soft storm slab, slow moving. Depth estimated between 12-18in. Slope angle where slide initiated was approximately 35-40deg. No partial or full burials.

Our group dug a pit very near this area on same aspect and similar altitude, probing upwards of 150cm. The persistent facet layer was approx. 90cm deep in this particular area. The pit location may have had some wind transport although no wind crust/dense snow was encountered at pit sight.

Media

Riders triggered this avalanche on Saturday in Mill Gulch, a sub-drainage of Smiley Creek.
