Signs of Unstable Snow

Observations

Attempted to ski south face below ridgeline at 8600-8800 departure. 1-4 inch wind slab in pockets exposed to wind..less so in sheltered areas. Snow very dense and deep..14-18 inches..hard turns. Once we returned to sheltered lower elevation the snow gradually softened up and turns were manageable. Very cold with wind chills at 15 below..not the best day, but always good to get out and explore!
