April 19th, 2024

We issued a General Avalanche Information product this morning. Twice weekly General Avalanche Information products will continue through April.

Be on the lookout for sensitive, thin slabs of wind-drifted snow. These are most likely as you climb into windier, alpine terrain. Warm spring days and hot sun will increase the chance of wet avalanches. These are most likely on very steep, rocky slopes that are sheltered from the wind and receive direct sunlight. You can reduce your risk by avoiding steep slopes where you’re sinking into mushy snow past your boot tops.

Are you interested in driving the development of future avalanche forecast products? Simon Fraser University is collaborating with US avalanche centers to better understand how useful avalanche forecast information is for trip planning. Click here to participate in a 20 minute survey.

The Baker Creek Rescue Training Park is closed for the season.
