Be on the lookout for sensitive, thin slabs of wind-drifted snow. These are most likely as you climb into windier, alpine terrain. Warm spring days and hot sun will increase the chance of wet avalanches. These are most likely on very steep, rocky slopes that are sheltered from the wind and receive direct sunlight. You can reduce your risk by avoiding steep slopes where you’re sinking into mushy snow past your boot tops.
