Bottom Line

Stable conditions. With a very good freeze, cool temps, and a bit of wind there was no wet snow problem today. The 1" of new snow that fell yesterday was not enough to create anything other than micro-drifts.

Advanced Information

Weather Summary

Cloud Cover:
Clear
Wind:
Light , S
New/Recent Snowfall:
From yesterday: 1cm at the highway up to 3cm at upper elevations

Despite the wind only being light, it was a cold breeze and significantly delayed the thaw exposed slopes. Even out of the wind, the temps were cool.

Avalanche Observations

I did not see many wet slides from last weekend's warm up, and the few I did see were unremarkable.

Snowpack Observations

Thawing of frozen surfaces was delayed by cooler temps and wind, and possibly insulated by 1" of new snow. Snow surfaces that did thaw stayed boot supportable at least til midafternoon when I left the field - I suspect that remained the case after I left.

Upper elevation due north aspects (above about 8500') were dry and softish at the surface. Mid elevation norths had some crusts at the surface but were dry below that.

Avalanche Problems

No problems observed. Wind drifts were present but tiny.

Terrain Use

I felt comfortable traveling in about any terrain. The 1" of new snow got sticky with warming, preventing corn conditions from being as good as expected.
