Stability tests show positive results. Digging in Watkins Creek I found the PWL a few inches above the ground underneath a very strong cohesive slab. The PWL shows signs of gaining strength and did not fail in my ECT. I am finding a fat cm of surface hoar on the surface that has been forming since I was last on the mountain, this is widespread and is showing up on all aspects and elevations.

Bottom Line

Feeling great about the low danger rating, very strong snowpack everywhere I have checked. However, the persistent weak layer at the bottom of the snowpack could be triggered in areas with shallower snowpack or in a rock outcropping or other areas that promote faceting in the snow. I will note that the cool humid nights have been manufacturing surface hoar and will be a layer of concern following the next storm cycle. now is the time to step out while applying safe avalanche practice using the travel buddy system and limiting only one at a time on avalanche prone slopes over 30 degrees.
