I observed at least 5 significant natural avalanches that failed today. Direct sunlight on the slopes appeared to be a factor. I saw many avalanches that released yesterday.
Southerly aspects will have stiff crusts when surfaces freeze. Shady protected slopes have some dry snow available for transport, but yesterday's wind already moved most of it.
