Signs of Unstable Snow

Observations

Dug two pits at 8800' and 9000' on SE aspect just below ridge line - HS 60 cm. No evidence of buried surface hoar that we had experienced down lower at 8400'. Depth hoar present but rain crust noted below at base was not evident. Snow pack was not wind affected in test areas. CT23 failed at ground level at 9000' - ECT did not fail or propagate either location. About 4" of soft snow on Styrofoam base. Coverage is still a bit thin but skiable.

No collapsing and no evidence of natural slides in the MacDonald basin.
