We were on mild terrain in the trees, 9200' NE, traveled very cautiously and heard several large wumphing sounds even when we weren't moving, constant propagating cracks. Visibility was terrible with strong winds, so we couldn't see if there was visible avalanche activity around us, but I have no doubt there was because of how loud some of the wumphing was.
Observed Avalanche Problem #1:
Northeast aspect of Galena Benchmark, heavy wind-loading, widespread cracking and broke off several large slabs above and below us that would have slid if we were on steeper terrain. the wind slab was probably 6 inches deep at 8am on 1/27.
